IN VINO VERITA(RT)S

EXCLUSIVE ITALIAN GRAPE HARVEST
Harvesting grapes to make wine is the first step towards the finished bottle, but it is also the busiest time of the year for a winery. Festivals and events focusing around the excitement of the annual grape harvest keep the tradition and anticipation in full bloom.
And a very special vineyard makes the grape harvest a very special event.
TRENDY BINOMINAL: ARCHITECTUREAND WINE
Antinori Winery / Archea Associati (source: archdaily) The site is surrounded by the unique hills of Chianti, covered with vineyards, half-way between Florence and Siena. A cultured and illuminated customer has made it possible to pursue, through architecture, the enhancement of the landscape and the surroundings as expression of the cultural and social valence of the place where wine is produced.
The purpose of the project has been to merge the building and the rural landscape; the industrial complex appears to be a part of the latter thanks to the roof, which has been turned into a plot of farmland cultivated with vines, interrupted, along the contour lines, by two horizontal cuts which let light into the interior and provide those inside the building with a view of the landscape through the imaginary construction of a diorama.
The materials and technologies evoke the local tradition with simplicity, coherently expressing the theme of studied naturalness, both in the use of terracotta and in the advisability of using the energy produced naturally by the earth to cool and insulate the winery, creating the ideal climatic conditions for the production of wine.

Wine and Art, perception by the senses and beauty. Today’s culture rooted deep in tradition and in the land. Beginning in 2000, the Castello di Ama per l’Arte Contemporanea project has grown, in collaboration with Galleria Continua, and now is recognised as high points in contemporary art.

(ITALIAN) PETRA
Standing out among the more recent high-quality wineries in Maremma (Tuscany) there is Petra and that is chiefly thanks to its architecture, by Mario Botta.
The marriage if unusual firms comprises a large, pink stone cylinder, divided by an oblique plan that lies parallel to the hill behind and two built-in stairways.
The aim was to create a modern version of a Tuscany country house

VINTAGE WINES IN A “CAVEAU”
This winery produces a limited number of only 50.000 bottles of four iconic Capannelle wines per year. From every harvest, about 3000 bottles are kept aside for numerous clients who collect vintage series.
This method is growing and improving with the opening of “The Caveau" where 8.000 bottles of Capannelle wine's can be stored in personalized spaces. Many 5 star and boutique hotels, celebrities and superstars from all over the world store their Capannelle vintage series in this exclusive wine cellar.

THE WAVE OF CHANGE
The vineyard, with its extension of more than 100 hectares of entirely organic farming, combining ancient skills and love for the land with the most modern technologies.
The Amastuola Vineyard is a unique example of harmony between production and aesthetics. The project of the vineyard is based on the design thought by the known landscape architect Fernando Caruncho, who designed for the first time the entire agricultural landscape as if it was a garden and ordered the rows drawing sublime parallel waves extending approximately 3 km, described by himself as “waves of time that traverse this landscape since antiquity”.

THE LONG WALK

Shannon Jensen has a great essay in Newsweek International in the 3  September 2012 issue from South Sudan. The photojournalist travelled in the country June-July this year, and photographed shoes belonging to the 30.000 refugees who had travelled by foot across the border from Sudan’s Blue Nile state over to neighboring South Sudan to join a population of 70,000 refugees who preceded them in fleeing Khartoum’s deadly military campaign to crush the northern remnant of the Southern liberation movement
